Claudine Foong Gets Fit

claudine foong fitness

claudine foong fitnessActually, Claudine Foong has been fit for a long time, but now she's taking fitness to another level. The images are from a fitness competition a couple weeks ago in Montreal, the first one Foong has competed in. And she made her other love - golf - clear to the others entered, as you can see in the photo above. Claudine will be adding fitness tips to her Web site over time.

Claudine didn't pick up her first set of golf clubs until age 15, but just a few years later was getting scholarship offers from colleges. She completed college at Gardner-Webb in North Carolina. She has since played on the Futures Tour and Canadian Tour.

"I still have a long way to go and countless things to learn," Foong writes on her Web site, "but I am not afraid. I willingly accept all challenges that may come my way and look forward to the next few years with great optimism and excitement."

Ryann is another California girl in the cast, and like castmate Maiya Tanaka is an alum of the powerhouse UCLA women's golf program. Ryann finished in the Top 10 twelves times in collegiate tournaments.

She graduated in 2009 with a degree in sociology, and turned pro. O'Toole got into 10 tournaments on the Duramed Futures Tour last year, with a best finish of 10th.

So far in 2010, Ryann has played five times on the Futures Tour and improved her best finish to ninth. She finished tied for second in the Canadian Women's Tour season opener last week.

Here is what the Golf Channel said about Ryann in its announcement of the cast:

Melissa Reid won for the first time on the Ladies European Tour on Sunday at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open. It was a victory that many LET observers had been waiting on for a year or so; Reid is someone that has been expected to become a regular winner on the LET.

She turned pro in 2008 following an amateur career that included wins in the 2004 and 2005 English Girls' Championship, the 2006 and 2007 Helen Holm Trophy, the 2007 St. Rule Trophy and the 2007 British Amateur Strokeplay Championship, along with a Curtis Cup appearance for GB&I.

Continuing our series on Big Break Sandals Resorts contestants with Seema Sadekar ...

Golf Babes readers are familiar with Seema, who we've featured here multiple times. She's one of the Play Golf Designs crew members, and is the cofounder of Minx Golf.

On the course, Seema is a former Canadian Women's Tour money leader, and she just finished runner-up in the 2010 Canadian Tour season opener. Seema made her Duramed Futures Tour debut in 2008, played on that tour 10 times in 2009 and is playing the Futures Tour full-time in 2010. Her best finished to date is a tie for 27th.

A Toronto native, Seema moved to Las Vegas to play collegiate golf, and that's where she's stayed. Her love of fashion and the finer things fits right with Vegas glitz and glamour.

In its announcement of the cast members, the Golf Channel said this about Seema:

Seema Sadekar (24, Las Vegas, Nev.) – One of the most fashionable players on the women’s golf circuit – she has a custom-made golf bag covered in faux diamonds and wears stylish golf attire – Sadekar always manages to be noticed wherever she goes. In addition to competing full-time on the Duramed FUTURES Tour, Sadekar is heavily involved with her older sister's golf events company, and also is co-founder of a golf marketing and apparel company.

Day 8 of our series on the Big Break Sandals Resorts cast members brings us to Sara "No H" Brown.

Sara Brown, a native Arizonan, went to college at Michigan State University. She was a four-time winner at MSU, the three-time low amateur in the Michigan Women's Open, and won her school's female athlete of the year award twice.

She turned pro in 2008 and joined the Duramed Futures Tour. In 11 starts that year, Sara made eight cuts and had a best finish of third, and despite the short schedule managed to finish 22nd on the money list.

She made nine of 15 cuts on the Futures Tour in 2009 and is playing the Futures Tour in 2010, as well.

Here's what the Golf Channel said about her in its cast announcement:

Sara Brown (24, Tucson, Ariz.) – After a successful collegiate career at Michigan State University and a stellar rookie season on the Duramed FUTURES Tour, Brown endured a “sophomore slump” in 2009, to the point where her usual smile turned to frustration, nearly causing her to quit the game. Refreshed and energized after a winter hiatus, Brown has her eyes set on winning Big Break Sandals Resorts.

Kelly Sheehan is the subject of this, Day 7, in our series on the cast of Big Break Sandals Resorts.

And Kelly Sheehan is the least-known member of the group. That's because she's not a touring professional, but a club pro and teaching pro. She was well-known to the Golf Channel before her selection for Big Break, however: She's appeared on the network as an instructor.

Currently, Kelly is the head golf professional at The Ritz-Carlton Club in Orlando. She does have a competitive background, thought: At Division II Florida Southern, Sheehan earned All-America honors as a college golfer.

Here's what the Golf Channel said about Kelly when it announced the contestants:

Kelly Sheehan (32, Orlando, Fla.) – The lone contestant who has not competed full-time on the professional circuit, Sheehan plans to channel her 10 years of experience as a certified PGA of America and LPGA teaching professional to overcome the various challenges facing her on Big Break Sandals Resorts.

Stacey Bieber played junior and high school golf in Canada, and college golf in Texas (at TCU). She studied finance and real estate in college and the Golf Channel tells us that Stacey nearly quit golf to go into investment banking. So if she wins any cash prizes on Big Break Sandals Resorts, she should know what to do with the money.

Stacey played on the Canadian Women's Tour after turning pro in 2008, and in 2009 got into her first Duramed Futures Tour events. She had a high finish of ninth in seven starts. She's playing the Futures Tour again in 2010.

Here's what the Golf Channel said about Stacey in its cast announcement:

Stacey Bieber (25, Fort Worth, Texas) – Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Bieber nearly quit golf after college to pursue a professional career in investment banking. Realizing she could not give up her dream of one day competing on the LPGA Tour, she re-dedicated herself to the game. Her goal is to be on the LPGA Tour in 2011.

Lili Alvarez, Big Break Sandals Resorts

We're featuring Lili Alvarez on Day 5 of our series on the cast members of Big Break Sandals Resorts, which premieres on the Golf Channel in June.

Lili garnered some media attention at the beginning of the 2010 Duramed Futures Tour season because of her caddie. LPGA commissioner Michael Whan looped for Lili in the first round of the Florida's Natural Charity Classic.

Lili was born in El Paso but grew up in Mexico, and played junior and amateur golf with, among others, Lorena Ochoa. She won three tournaments during her collegiate career at Tulane University, and was the Conference USA Player of the Year in 2003.

She also won the Mexican Amateur Championship in 2004. In 2007 she graduated college with a degree in political science, and turned pro on the golf course.

Lili has played the Futures Tour since 2008, with a best finish so far of 13th. At the time this post was written, she had made the cut in four of the five tournaments she'd played so far in the 2010 season. The only one she didn't make? The first one, with Commissioner Whan on the bag. Bad caddie!

Here is what the Golf Channel said about Alvarez in its news release announcing the contestants:

Lili Alvarez (26, El Paso, Texas) – One of Mexico's elite amateur golfers who grew up competing alongside Lorena Ochoa, Alvarez's fun loving personality is infectious on the Duramed FUTURES Tour. A student at Tulane University in New Orleans who endured the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Alvarez learned to appreciate life to the fullest.

Day 4 of our series on the contestants of Big Break Sandals Resorts presents Chris Brady.

Chris was a three-time all-conference selection at Vanderbilt University, and won five times while in college. She was also a four-time all-academic pick by the Southeastern Conference. She turned pro in 2007, and in 2008 had status on the LPGA Tour. You can still find one of her "rookie blogs" here on the LPGA website.

Here's what the Golf Channel said about Chris in its announcement of the contestants:

Chris Brady (25, Charlotte, N.C.) – The lone contestant who had exempt status on the LPGA Tour (2008), Brady hung up her golf clubs when her game and the economy took a downturn in 2009 to pursue an engineering career. Big Break Sandals Resorts will be her test to see if she has the competitive fire and passion to resume her golf career and attempt to return to the LPGA Tour.

Day 3 of our series on the cast members of Big Break Sandals Resorts brings us to Carling Coffing.

Regular readers of Golf Babes have met Carling before; we featured her back in October 2009, when this Ohio girl was sporting her Cincinnati Reds colors.

You might also have seen Carling in one of the video segments she's done for the Duramed Futures Tour and Golf Channel Web sites. She joined the Futures Tour in 2008, played a full schedule in 2009, and at the time of this writing has played in four tournaments so far in 2010. Last year, she made 13 of 17 cuts and finished 61st on the money list. Her best finish to date on the Futures Tour is a tie for 11th.

Here's what the Golf Channel said about her in its news release announcing the Big Break Sandals Resorts contestants:

Carling Coffing (24, Middletown, Ohio) – A sweet, Midwestern young lady on the surface, Coffing is a tough competitor who has overcome enormous odds to achieve her dream to be a professional golfer. Coffing was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 5, and after years of giving herself dozens of shots every day, she switched to a diabetic insulin pump in 2008, which is connected to her 24 hours a day. Coffing now competes full-time on the Duramed FUTURES Tour.

Sunday's Winners

Pretty good group of winners in the world of women's golf on Sunday, May 2, 2010. So good they deserve a post.

ai miyazato picturesLPGA Tour
It was the swansong for Lorena Ochoa as a regular member of the LPGA Tour, but the Tres Marias Championship winner was Ai Miyazato. And if Ai's not careful, she's going to start dominating the LPGA like she did the JLPGA several years ago. This is the third win of 2010 for Miyazato. She's en fuego. And she beat back Stacy Lewis and Michelle Wie for this win.

jiyai shin picturesJLPGA
Wait, Miyazato has competition for dominance - Jiyai Shin. Maybe they can just split all the wins. Shin won in Japan on Sunday, and it was a momentous victory. It meant that if Ochoa failed to finish fourth or higher at the Tres Marias, Shin would become the No. 1-ranked player in women's golf. Well, Lorena finished sixth. Shin is your new No. 1.

paola moreno picturesFutures Tour
And on the Duramed Futures Tour, Paola Moreno won for the first time at the Hill Country Classic in San Antonio. She had a runner-up after turning pro in 2009. Moreno, from Colombia, was the 2008 NCAA women's champion while at the University of Southern Cal, from which she graduated with a degree in economics.

Here's what the Golf Channel said about her in its news release about the Big Break Sandals Resorts cast:

Taryn Durham (24, Glasgow, Ky.) – The quintessential All-American sweetheart, Durham has the looks, the southern charm and southern accent. While Durham’s resume stacks up with her fellow competitors, she has an edge over her fellow competitors in that she is the only contestant who has competed in a Major Championship (2007 U.S. Women’s Open).

She has a degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University, where she played collegiate golf. Elena won five tournaments as a collegian, was the conference Player of the Year in 2006, and a two-time NCAA Division II All-America selection.
